The Mistreatment of Indigenous People In Canada

The Issue At
Hand
There are many things that have caused injustice for the Indigenous Canadians. Some issues include police brutally, crimes against them not being taken seriously by the justice system, missing and murdered Indigenous women, and not having clean water at reserves along with not having many other resources.
Indigenous women are 12 times more likely to be killed, and there don't seem to be any broadcasts addressing the “race-based genocide”. No one in a position of power seems to be willing to do anything about the injustice.
When Justin Trudeau first ran for office, he said that he would get clean water to reserves within 5 years, but there hasn't been much news about this project starting. There have been a lot of false promises, but no actions.
Indigenous people are10 times more likely to be accused of homicide.19 percent of federal prisoners are Indigenous. Racial discrimination ends up upholding certain human right standards.

It is believed that with all the broken promises and just like the other governments before, Trudeau doesn’t have any intention in resolving the issues. On June 2019, it was found that Canada is both guilty of historic and ongoing genocide, this was found out through a national inquiry done about the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women.

Canada pretends to not be racist and to not have race based prejudice, which is not true. Some of the most obvious examples of racism towards to Indigenous people are displayed in the Canadian legal system, the institutionalized racism has been going on for almost 200 years. There has been a lot of boulders set up which prevents indigenous people from participating in their culture freely.

Approximately 4,000 women and girls have been killed or gone missing in Canada in 30 years, this number is just an estimate and the true number of victims is likely to never be known.
An inquiry that was done included 231recommendations for future action to help with the injustice, but it seems like nothing is being taken seriously. Some recommendations include giving indigenous languages official status, and creating a universal basic income along with early childhood programs for indigenous youth.
